The First 9 is a small beginner golf brand. We write free guides, and our guides and PDFs are free. This page explains, in plain words, what information we collect on thefirst9.com, why, who helps us handle it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
The First 9 is operated by [CONFIRM: legal entity]. If you have a question about this policy, email hello@thefirst9.com.
The short version
- We collect your email address, and your consent, when you ask for the free intro or the free Getting Started guides.
- Everything we offer is free. We don't take payments or ask for card details.
- We use the Meta Pixel to measure our ads, and Cloudflare to count visits, including a rough city-and-state count.
- We don't sell your personal information.
- Email hello@thefirst9.com and we'll tell you what we have, or delete it.
What we collect and why
Your email address, when you ask for the free intro. You type your email and tick the box agreeing to get the free intro and occasional tips. We use it to email you the intro PDF, and to send occasional tips from The First 9. The email is sent through our email provider, Resend. Our website doesn't keep a separate mailing list database; a record of each email we send is kept by Resend, and our hosting provider's logs briefly note that an intro was sent to your address.
Your email address, when you ask for the free Getting Started guides. On our guides page you type your email and tick the box agreeing to get the free guides and The First 9 newsletter. We use Resend to email you the two PDFs. We also add your email to our newsletter list on beehiiv, noting that you joined through the free guides, and beehiiv sends you a welcome email and our newsletter. There's no payment and no card, and we don't ask for your name or address.
Emails you send us. If you write to hello@thefirst9.com or reply to one of our emails, we keep that conversation so we can help you.
How you use the site. We use two measurement tools, described in the next section. They tell us things like which pages are visited, whether someone signed up, and roughly where visitors come from.
The club height picker. The picker on our clubs guide works in your browser. Your height and any measurements you enter are not sent to us. When you use it, the Meta Pixel records that the picker was used, the club-length range it suggested (for example "standard" or "+½ inch"), and whether you added a wrist-to-floor measurement. It doesn't record your height itself.
Cookies, pixels and analytics
Meta Pixel. We use the Meta (Facebook and Instagram) Pixel on our pages. It lets Meta tell us whether our ads lead to visits, free intro signups and free guide signups, and it helps Meta show our ads to people who might find them useful. The Pixel can set cookies and sends Meta information such as the page you're on, your browser and device details and your IP address. Meta may connect this with your Meta account under its own privacy policy.
To limit this: - Change your Meta ad preferences and the "activity information from ad partners" setting in your Meta account. - Block or clear third-party cookies in your browser settings, or use a browser or extension that blocks tracking pixels. - Learn more about interest-based ads at the Digital Advertising Alliance.
Cloudflare Web Analytics. Cloudflare counts page visits for us. It doesn't use cookies or local storage to track you, and we only see totals, like page views and referring sites. We also count visits by approximate city and state from Cloudflare's network data, and we don't store IP addresses or identify individuals.
Google Fonts. Our pages load fonts from Google, so Google receives your IP address and browser details when the fonts load. We don't use Google Analytics or Google ads on the site.
We don't use any other cookies of our own, and we don't save anything about you in your browser's storage.
Who helps us run the site
We use a few service providers. Each one handles information only to do its job for us, under its own privacy terms:
- beehiiv: our newsletter list, and the welcome and newsletter emails sent to people who sign up for the free guides. beehiiv Privacy Policy
- Resend: sending the free intro and the free Getting Started guides PDFs. Resend Privacy Policy
- Cloudflare: hosting the website, security, visit counts, and our approximate city-and-state count. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
- Meta: ad measurement through the Meta Pixel. Meta Privacy Policy
- Google: web fonts and our hello@thefirst9.com mailbox. Google Privacy Policy
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or prevent fraud, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business.
We don't sell your personal information. We do let Meta collect information through the Pixel for ad measurement and targeting. Some state laws may call that "sharing" or "targeted advertising"; you can opt out of it as described above, or by emailing us.
Email: consent and unsubscribing
We only send marketing emails if you ask for them, by ticking the box on our free intro form or our free guides form. You need to tick that box to get the free PDFs, and the PDFs come in the first email.
To stop marketing emails at any time, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter email, reply to any of our emails with "unsubscribe," or write to hello@thefirst9.com. We'll take you off within 10 business days. [CONFIRM: add a one-click unsubscribe link to emails before sending regular tips.]
How long we keep information
- Newsletter list: your email stays on our beehiiv list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Records of emails we send stay with Resend for the period Resend keeps them, and our hosting logs are short-lived.
- Emails you send us stay in our mailbox until we no longer need them.
- Analytics and Pixel data are kept by Cloudflare and Meta under their own retention rules. Our city-and-state counts are totals only and expire after about 13 months.
When we no longer need information, we delete it or ask our providers to.
Your choices and requests
You can ask us to: - tell you what personal information we have about you, - correct it, - delete it, or - stop sending you marketing emails.
Email hello@thefirst9.com from the address you used with us. We may ask a question or two to confirm it's you. We'll answer within 45 days. We won't treat you differently for asking. Some records may need to stay if the law requires it.
A note for US state residents
Several US states give residents privacy rights, such as the right to know, correct or delete personal information and to opt out of targeted advertising. Which rights apply depends on where you live and whether a law covers a business our size. Wherever you live, you can make any of the requests above by emailing hello@thefirst9.com, and we'll do our best to help. If we say no to a request, you can reply to ask us to look at it again.
Keeping information safe
We use trusted providers, secure (HTTPS) connections, and limit who can access the information you give us. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care.
Children
The First 9 is for adults learning golf. It isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has given us their email, write to hello@thefirst9.com and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we'll update this page and the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll put a note on the site or email people on our list.
