Beginner guide
9 holes vs 18 holes for beginners
Eighteen holes is a full afternoon. Nine holes is a real round that still fits a busy life — and a nervous nervous system.
Why start with 9
- Time: often about 1.5–2.5 hours on a quiet par-3 or executive nine
- Energy: you finish before fatigue turns every swing into a survival move
- Social load: fewer holes of worrying what the group behind thinks
- Cost: usually cheaper than a full eighteen
When 18 can wait
- You have not yet finished a nine without wanting to quit mid-round
- Your bag is still a puzzle of unused clubs
- You booked a busy Saturday afternoon “because that is what golfers do”
When 18 becomes fun
After a few nines feel familiar — pace, packing, pick-up rules — eighteen is a longer walk with the same game. There is no badge for suffering through eighteen too early.
Play nine. Enjoy it. Add holes when you want more time outside, not when Instagram says a “real” round is eighteen.
