Beginner guide
Do beginners need golf shoes?
No — not for your first few quiet rounds. Clean sneakers with decent tread are enough on most dry par-3 courses.
When sneakers are fine
- Dry weather and flat walking
- Short par-3 nines where you are learning rhythm, not touring
- You are still deciding if golf is for you
When shoes help
- Wet grass, hills, or early morning dew
- You notice slipping on full swings
- A course requires soft spikes (rare on casual par-3s, but check)
What to buy later
If you stick with it, look for comfortable walking shoes with soft spikes or spikeless grip — used is fine. Do not let shoe shopping delay your first tee time.
Priority order for beginners: three clubs → a tee time → optional shoes. Belonging comes from showing up prepared, not from matching the parking-lot fashion.
