Beginner guide
What to wear golfing as a beginner
You do not need a country-club wardrobe for a public par-3. You need to be comfortable, safe on your feet, and respectful of the course’s posted dress code.
Safe default outfit
- Collared shirt or neat polo / athletic top — check the course site; many munis are casual.
- Khaki or athletic pants / shorts — avoid ripped jeans if the course asks for neat attire.
- Comfortable sneakers are fine for many beginners on walking courses. Soft-spike golf shoes help later.
- Hat + sunscreen — more important than logo gear.
What you can skip buying first
- Tour-pro rain suits
- Multiple pairs of golf shoes
- Anything that costs more than your three-club bag
Quick check before you go
Open the course website or call the pro shop: “Casual beginner — any dress code I should know?” One question beats guessing wrong on the first tee.
Clothes should free you to focus on the Sunday Bag and the next shot — not impress anyone.
