Beginner guide
Pace of play for beginner golfers
Other groups mostly care that you are safe and moving — not that you shoot well. Pace anxiety is real; the fix is readiness, not perfection.
Ready golf
- Know which club you will hit before it is your turn
- One look, one swing — then walk
- Putt when you are ready (unless local rules say otherwise); keep the green clear
Permission to pick up
- After a disaster hole, pick up and drop near the green
- Max-score style: once you are well over par, finish the hole socially, not heroically
- Wave faster groups through if you are searching for balls
Why a short bag helps pace
Three clubs mean fewer debates and less rummaging. A par-3 nine means less walking-between panic. That is how beginners stay kind to the people behind them.
Play badly. Play safely. Keep moving. That is etiquette most courses respect.
