What to bring to your first round of golf
Your first nine is not a camping trip. Pack light so you can walk, think, and enjoy the walk between shots.
Bring these
- Three clubs — putter, wedge (around 58°), pitching wedge. That is a Sunday Bag.
- 6–12 balls — cheap ones. You will lose a few. That is normal.
- Tees + a ball marker — a coin works as a marker.
- Water + sunscreen + a hat
- Phone — for the tee sheet or course map; silence notifications on the first tee.
Nice if you have them
- A glove (optional for early rounds)
- A soft towel
- A light layer if mornings are cool
Leave at home (for now)
- A full 14-club set you are not ready to choose from
- Rangefinder anxiety — yardage posts on a par-3 are enough
- Anything that makes you rummage for five minutes before every shot
If you can carry it in one small bag and still wave “you’re good” when someone walks by, you packed right.
