Beginner guide
How many golf balls should beginners bring?
There isn’t one magic number. There is a calm pocket count so a lost ball doesn’t end your day.
A practical starter kit
- 6–12 balls for a first quiet nine is plenty for most beginners
- Buy inexpensive or recycled balls — you will misplace some; that’s tuition, not failure
- Keep 2–3 in a pocket or Sunday Bag pouch so you’re not digging mid-hole
- Same model/feel if you can — fewer variables when you’re already learning
If you run out
Borrow from a playing partner if they offer, buy a sleeve in the shop, or call it a short day without shame. Water-heavy courses eat more balls; tight par-3s usually eat fewer.
Permission
Pros lose balls too. Your job is not a pristine sleeve at the end — it’s finishing holes and wanting another nine. Cheap balls + a small stash beats a dozen premium ones you fear losing.
