Beginner guide
When should beginners take golf lessons?
Lessons help. They are not the only door. Many intimidated beginners stall for months “waiting to be ready” for a pro — and never book a tee time.
Do this before (or beside) lessons
- Learn a three-club Sunday Bag so decisions stay small
- Play a few quiet par-3 nines so the game feels real
- Practice with a purpose that connects to those holes
Take a lesson when
- You are hooked and want a safer, simpler swing
- Pain or weird contact keeps repeating
- You have a specific goal (break 50 for nine, stop topping chips)
Skip the “50 lessons before I play” trap
Belonging on a course comes from playing a course that fits. A single clarifying lesson plus a short bag often beats a year of range-only instruction with no path.
The First 9 is permission and a plan — not a replacement for a good local pro when you are ready for one.
