Beginner guide
Walking vs riding a cart — beginner guide
Neither walking nor riding makes you a “real” golfer. Choose what helps you finish nine holes calmly.
Walking is often better early
- On a short par-3 / executive nine, walking keeps you near your bag and the next shot.
- You feel the course rhythm — less rush to the next tee in a cart queue.
- Three clubs in a light Sunday bag make walking easy.
When a cart helps
- Heat, humidity, or long walks between greens.
- Hilly layouts or a longer nine you’re still learning.
- Course requires carts for pace or path rules — follow the shop.
Cart etiquette (quick)
- Stay on paths where signs say so — especially near greens.
- Park away from others’ putting lines.
- Don’t drive while someone nearby is swinging.
Permission line
If walking feels like a workout you didn’t sign up for, take the cart and enjoy the swings. The goal is a finished nine, not a fitness contest.
